Georgia Anticipates Single Agency For Most Trucking Business

It’s going to get a lot simpler to know which state agency truckers and other drivers should turn to in Georgia if Gov. Roy Barnes signs recently passed legislation.

A bill approved by the state legislature on March 22 creates the Department of Motor Vehicle Safety, which will consolidate a number of responsibilities for commercial and passenger vehicles spread around several state offices.

“I think it holds a lot of potential,” said Edward Crowell, president of the Georgia Motor Trucking Association. “We’ve been working for several years to improve bureaucratic interaction between trucking and the government and part of the problem is the three separate state agencies we’ve had to deal with.”
