The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. has opened its first office in California’s Silicon Valley to connect with automakers and technology firms that are developing autonomous vehicles and ride-sharing fleets.
“People don’t immediately associate tires with the digital transformation in the automotive industry,” Goodyear Chief Technology Officer Chris Helsel said in a statement Sept. 1. “But we see an unprecedented opportunity for tire electronics and information systems to improve vehicle performance, safety and, ultimately, the consumer experience.”
Our goal is to build smarter, connected products and services for future generations of vehicles and business models.

The new office is in Sunnyvale at the Plug and Play TechCenter and will be an extension of the company’s innovation centers in Akron, Ohio, and Colmar-Berg in Luxembourg.
“Our goal is to build smarter, connected products and services for future generations of vehicles and business models,” Helsel explained. “We are open for business in the Silicon Valley to connect with the best and brightest thinkers around the future of mobility.”
