STATESBORO, Ga. — Great Dane Trailers officially opened a new plant here this week to produce refrigerated trailers, the ninth production facility for the company.
The 450,000-square-foot facility opened Tuesday currently employs about 150 workers, who are producing a single trailer a day as the company is perfecting its manufacturing processes.
Great Dane officials said the plant would be producing six trailers a day by July, and a second shift will be added in August. Eventually, each shift will produce about 10 trailers a day, when the plant reaches its 5,000-trailer-a-year capacity.
Bill Crown, the company’s president, said the plant underscored Great Dane’s faith in manufacturing in the United States.
Speaking just before he helped cut the ribbon that officially opened the plant, Crown said, “We are proud that it will serve as a model of the most technically advanced, environmentally sound production practices in the world.”
The plant, about 45 miles from Great Dane’s corporate office complex in Savannah, will produce the new Everest line of refrigerated trailers, included the TL model for truckload carriers and the CL model for foodservice operations that require multiple-temperature units.
