Green Bay Bridge Reopens

The Green Bay, Wis., bridge closed for more than three months after sagging reopened Jan. 5.

The opening of the Leo Frigo Bridge came 12 days earlier than state officials expected and just in time for the NFL playoff game Jan. 5 between the Green Bay Packers and the San Francisco 49ers.

Closed since Sept. 25, the bridge carries Interstate 43 traffic over the Fox River. The span had to be closed after one of its piers sank about 2 feet, causing the crossing to sag.

New cement supports were installed around several of the bridge piers at a cost of about $15 million, state transportation officials said.

Gov. Scott Walker (R) joined local and state officials and contractors in Green Bay Jan. 3 to announce the bridge’s opening.
