Hall of Fame Honors Dana CEO

DEARBORN, Mich. — Southwood J. "Woody" Morcott, chairman and chief executive officer of Dana Corp., Toledo, Ohio, is the 1998 Automotive Industry Leader of the Year.

Mr. Morcott was selected by the Automotive Hall of Fame as the person who in the past year has exemplified the "image, foresight, leadership, ingenuity and purpose contributing most to the advancement of the automotive industry," said Hall of Fame Chairman Thomas J. Feely.

He has been CEO at Dana since 1989 and chairman since 1990 and is credited with tripling its size despite the economic recession in the early 1990s. He has expanded Dana through more than two dozen acquisitions and joint ventures, including international companies.

He also restructured Dana, selling unprofitable and noncore businesses and shifting production to more integrated systems.

He was a founding member and the first co-chairman of the Automotive-Supplier Government Action Council. He also served as chairman of the Manufacturers Alliance, and as a member of the U.S.-Japan Business Council and the U.S. Business Roundtable Policy Committee.

His community activities include chairmanship of the local United Way Campaign, and directorships at three colleges, an art museum and a hospital. He has a lifelong interest in the Boy Scouts of America and holds the Distinguished Eagle Scout award.

The Automotive Hall of Fame will present the award during the National Automobile Dealers Assn. annual convention in San Francisco in February 1999.
