Halladay Honored with ATA’s Highest Award
American Trucking Associations said Wednesday it honored Bob Halladay with the S. Earl Dove Highway Award for his lifetime of dedication to the trucking industry.
The Dove Award, considered ATA’s highest honor, recognizes individuals whose contributions of time, energy and intelligence have advanced the interests of the trucking industry and ATA, the group said.
“This honor I have been given today is the greatest I have ever received,” Halladay said in accepting the award, which was presented by Tom Howells, President of the Wisconsin Motor Carriers Association, at ATA’s annual Winter Leadership meeting in Washington on Wednesday.
“This is a great experience, and I am proud to have been a part of this industry and this association,” he said.
Halladay began his career in trucking in 1952 as managing director of the Kansas Motor Carriers Association, and later served as chairman of the Midwest Trucking Associations. He was the first chairman of the ATA Reciprocity Committee and the first elected chairman of ATA’s Trucking Association Executives Council.
During his tenure, Halladay served as ATA’s Director of Interstate Cooperation and wrote “The Story of the American Trucking Associations,” published in 1994.
He was ATA’s Senior Vice President of Federation Relations and headed up Transport Topics Publishing Group when he retired in 1990.
