The railroad industry is not pressing for reductions in truck sizes or weights, nor is it taking a position on proposals to transfer jurisdiction over truck safety from the Federal Highway Administration to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the head of the industry’s trade group says in an interview with Transport Topics.

Association of American Railroads President Ed Hamberger also questions why trucking is interested in forcing railroads to provide competitive access to their privately-owned tracks.

"I can’t understand for the life of me how getting involved in the competitive access debate benefits your industry," Hamberger told TT.
