The Senate Commerce, Science and Technology Committee has sent the nomination of Christopher Hart as director of the National Transportation Safety Board to the full Senate for a vote.

The committee voted Sept. 17 to send the nomination to the floor. Hart has been acting director since Deborah Hersman left the post in April. Before that, he had been an NTSB board member since 2009.

In June, President Obama nominated Hart to be director.

A Harvard-trained lawyer, Hart was director for Air Traffic Safety Oversight from 2005 to 2009 at the Federal Aviation Administration and from 1995 to 2005 was assistant administrator for system safety at FAA.
