High-Tech N.J. Weigh Station Is Having Problems

Problems are plaguing New Jersey’s most high-tech weigh station for trucks, the Associated Press reported.

The state spent $54 million for the weigh station along Interstate 78 in Warren County, which opened just a year ago, two years late and $4.5 million over budget, AP said.

The westbound station has been closed because of lightning strikes, mice eating through fiber-optic cables, a truck crashing into a gate, and because state police don’t always staff it, AP reported.

The Star-Ledger of Newark says the station was open just twice in the 25 times the newspaper checked it in the past month. The eastbound station, which has not faced similar technical problems, was open 12 times.
