President Doug Waggoner calls Daylight Transport “a virtual trucking company.”
The description fits, not only because of Daylight’s non-asset-based operating system, but because the company makes extensive use of information technology to manage its business.
“We don’t have broad coverage, but we do have extremely good service in key lanes and lower costs,” Waggoner said.
The company doesn’t own any trucks. Instead, it uses owner-operators and a network of agents to handle pickup and delivery, and hires truckload sleeper teams to move freight from Southern California to major cities in the Midwest, Canada and the East Coast.

“We do a lot of things and tie them together, so it is seamless to the customer,” Waggoner said.
Daylight Transport is part of a new breed of less-than-truckload consolidators who are carving out a lucrative niche by offering expedited LTL service at rates well below what it would cost to ship goods by air or by expedited ground carrier.
