AS VEGAS — In addition to changes to driver hours-of-service rules, the government’s truck safety agency will push out a host of regulations over the next several years and trucking executives should be prepared to offer input, the agency’s head said.

Administrator Annette Sandberg of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration said that Congress has asked her agency to address about 30 trucking safety issues, and might soon ask her to examine 25 to 30 more.

“One of the things that I caution our agency on is to be careful about the pace of change. If we were to issue all 30 of these rules this year, or next year, I don’t know that the industry would be able to absorb that pace of change,” Sandberg said.

She spoke here Oct. 6 at the Management Conference & Exhibition of American Trucking Associations.
