House Committee Creates Special Freight Panel
The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee has created a special panel to explore improving freight movement in the United States among various transportation modes, which will hold its first hearing later this month.
Committee Vice Chairman John Duncan (R-Tenn.) will chair the panel, and Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) will be its ranking member. It will hold its first hearing April 24, with details to be announced soon.
The panel’s work will emphasize interactions between transportation modes, including bottlenecks in particular modes that could affect the rest of the supply chain, Duncan said.
“Given that freight transportation cuts across many modes, this panel will play a critical role in providing recommendations on how to improve the efficient movement of goods between highways, ports, inland waterways, railroads, air carriers and pipelines,” Transportation Committee Chairman Bill Shuster (D-Pa.) said in a statement.
As a special panel, the freight committee is scheduled to be active for only six months, but the chairman may extend its duration when its term expires.
