House Hearing Will Review MAP-21, Obama’s Budget
A House panel will hold a hearing March 12 to examine the Department of Transportation’s implementation of MAP-21 and President Obama’s budget request for surface transportation agencies.
The Capitol Hill hearing by the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee’s subcommittee on highway and transit will include Peter Rogoff, acting undersecretary for policy at DOT; Anne Ferro, administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and the heads of other DOT agencies that oversee surface transportation, the panel said March 7. Rep. Tom Petri (R-Wis.) is the panel’s chairman.
Congress passed MAP-21 in 2012, but it expires Sept. 30. Lawmakers in the House and Senate have started to consider how to authorize surface transportation programs beyond MAP-21.
Obama’s budget, unveiled March 4, calls for $73 billion for surface transportation programs in fiscal 2015, which starts Oct. 1. It is part of Obama’s proposal to spend $302 billion on surface transportation over a four-year period.
