House Panel Schedules Fact-Finding Trip to Border

Members of the House Highways and Transit subcommittee will be visiting border inspection stations in San Diego and Laredo, Texas, as part of a fact-finding venture to determine the safety of Mexican trucks that cross into the United States.

Reps. Thomas Petri (R-Wis.), subcommittee chairman, and Robert A. Borski (D-Pa.), ranking minority member, will head the small party.

“The underlying mission is that the subcommittee needs to look at the safety of the American public,” said Borski. “We need to go down there and see for ourselves why they are not inspecting more trucks, and gain a sense of what is going on.”
