House Ways and Means Panel OKs Highway Trust Fund Plan

UPDATE, 11:15 a.m. EDT: By voice vote, the House Ways and Means Committee has reported a trust fund bill to the floor that would approve about $10 billion as a short-term fix for the Highway Trust Fund. More details to come from Transport Topics. The panel has now adjourned.

EARLIER: The House Ways and Means Committee is holding a hearing Thursday to consider a short-term fix to the Highway Trust Fund crisis. The trust fund is estimated to run out of money by August.

The trust fund reimburses states for large-scale road projects. Without the federal dollars, states have indicated they would consider halting highway construction projects this summer, an action that would impact the trucking industry.
