A 15-mile stretch of Interstate 4 in central Florida remained closed early Thursday after a 70-vehicle crash Wednesday caused by fog and smoke from a brush fire, the Associated Press reported.
The road is expected to reopen Thursday afternoon, a Florida Department of Transportation official told Transport Topics.
Nearly 15 miles of I-4 between Tampa and Orlando was closed by Wednesday’s pileup, which killed four people and injured about 40, AP said.
The Florida Highway Patrol was investigating the crash and the role of smoke from the fire, which started as a controlled burn and grew out of control, AP reported.
