I-43 Bridge in Wisconsin Closed Due to Sagging

A bridge on Interstate 43 in Green Bay, Wis., will remain closed indefinitely after a support pier settled, causing the roadway to sag about 2 feet, the Associated Press reported.

State Transportation Secretary Mark Gottlieb told AP the bridge is not in danger of collapsing. But it could remain closed for up to a year.

Gov. Scott Walker (R) said the bridge is important to the economy of northeastern Wisconsin and pledged to have the span fixed quickly.

The bridge was last inspected in August 2012, AP said. The piers were found to have cracks, but engineers determined them to be normal wear.
