I-70 Reopens in Missouri as Midwest Recovers from Snow

Missouri officials reopened Interstate 70 to traffic Wednesday morning after it had been closed due to a major snow storm.

Transportation officials had closed the east-west highway across almost the entire state Tuesday afternoon, the Kansas City Star reported.

Blizzard conditions Tuesday made most of the road impassable, especially in the central and eastern parts of Missouri.

The same massive storm caused Pennsylvania officials to reduce the speed limit on the Pennsylvania Turnpike to 45 mph Tuesday night, television station WFMZ reported. The turnpike’s website indicated that the speed limit had returned to normal Wednesday morning.

The blizzard had passed through most of the Midwest by early Wednesday, though the National Weather Service estimates that Chicago will get another 2 to 5 inches throughout the day on top of the more than two feet it got overnight.

The storm continued Wednesday morning in the Northeast, hammering parts of Massachusetts and upstate New York with more than a foot of snow, USA Today said.
