Import Prices Decline for Third Month

The price of imported goods dropped for the third consecutive month in September, the Labor Department reported Oct. 10.

September’s 0.5% decline follows a 0.6% drop the prior month. Economists in a Bloomberg News survey estimated that import prices would decline 0.7%.

Import prices excluding fuel declined 0.2% after no change in August, according to the Labor Department.

The price of imported consumer goods and capital goods was unchanged after no change the prior month.



Prices for U.S. exports fell 0.2% after rising 0.5% in August.
