Intermodal Rail Traffic Rises to Record Level for Second Week
U.S. weekly rail intermodal traffic rose to the highest volume on record for the second consecutive week, the Association of American Railroads reported.
For the week ended June 21, intermodal traffic increased 7.8% to 272,553 intermodal trailers and containers compared with the same week last year, AAR said June 26 in its weekly report.
Rail carload volume, which excludes intermodal units, increased 0.9% year-over-year to 291,142 carloads.
Eight of the 10 commodity groups that AAR tracks increased over last year, led by grain at 15%.
For the first 25 weeks of the year, intermodal volume has increased 5.9% from the same period last year to 6.4 million units.
Year-to-date, intermodal volume for all of North America increased 5.78% to 8 million trailers and containers.
