Intermodal Rail Traffic Rises For Week
U.S. rail intermodal traffic increased 3% in the week ended Jan. 25 compared with the same week last year, the Association of American Railroads reported.
Railroads moved 245,883 intermodal trailers and containers, AAR said in its weekly report.
Railroad carloads excluding intermodal increased 5.6% year-over-year to 280,761 units, according to the AAR report.
Seven of 10 commodity groups showed increases, led by grain (24.4%) and petroleum products (13.1%).
For the first four weeks of the year, intermodal units increased 1.8% to 936,176 from the same period last year.
Year-to-date North American intermodal rail traffic increased 1.3% to 1.17 million units.
