Intermodal Traffic Rises 2.4% for Week
Intermodal volume rose 2.4% for the week ended July 27, from the same week a year ago, the Association of American Railroads reported.
Traffic increased to 256,379 trailers and containers, AAR said in its weekly report.
Rail carload traffic increased 2.5% to 295,532 year-over-year, the rail trade group said.
Six of the 10 carload commodity groups tracked by AAR posted increases, led by petroleum and petroleum products, which jumped 23.2%. Commodities showing a decrease included grain, which fell 7.6%.
For the first 30 weeks of the year, U.S. railroads moved 7.2 million intermodal containers and trailers, up 3.4% from last year. Carload traffic dipped 1.3% to 8.3 million units.
