International Makes Inroads In Heavy-Duty Engine Making

eavy-duty truck maker International Truck and Engine Corp. said it would manufacture its own large diesel engines adding powerplants ranging from 11 to 13 liters, beginning in fall 2007.

It said the move would provide its customers with a “competitive cost structure” for heavy-duty engines that have steadily risen in price since 2002 to meet a series of new emission standards.

International, the operating arm of Navistar International Corp., said it would collaborate with German truck and engine maker MAN Nutzfahrzeuge, to produce engines International would offer exclusively in its heavy-duty on-highway and severe service trucks.
