The Internet’s Irresistible Power

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — The Internet, which offers a wealth of information and business opportunities, is really a Dr. Frankenstein that will slice, dice and reassemble the mighty U.S. economy, including trucking, according to a panel of industry executives.

Speaking at the annual meeting of the Truckload Carriers Association, truck manufacturers agreed during their March 21 discussion that technology would continue to exert profound change upon trucking.

“Buying and selling are never going to be the same,” said Edward B. Caudill, general manager of Kenworth Truck Co.

He cited statistics that show 330 million households worldwide have Internet access and that 20 million people bought things on the Internet in 1999.
