Interstate 10 Reopens in Louisiana

A stretch of Interstate 10 in Louisiana between Baton Rouge and Lafayette has re-opened to traffic after being closed Nov. 22 because of a natural gas explosion, the Associated Press reported Monday.

The explosion that closed the highway occurred Nov. 15, but it did not significantly damage the road, according to the Louisiana Department of Transportation.

I-10 runs for about 55 miles and links New Orleans with Houston.

Following the explosion, the Louisiana Office of Conservation ordered a 120-day moratorium on oil and gas drilling within a quarter-mile of interstate highways, effective Dec. 1, AP said.
