Iowa Trucker Helps Nab Criminal

An Iowa truck driver helped capture a suspected thief who led state police on a high speed chase on Interstate-80 in Pennsylvania.

The incident started when a state trooper attempted to pull over Shaun Kappel, who was wanted on charges of receiving stolen property and reckless endangerment, near Mountour County, Penn. Mr. Kappel refused to stop and fled from police on a chase that involved speeds of up to 110 miles per hour.

The chase ended 10 miles later when Mr. Kappel lost control of his car after he tried to pass two tractor-trailers by driving on a median strip.

Police said that when Mr. Kappel and a female passenger tried to escape on foot Chris Mausbauch, of Council Bluff, Iowa, who was driving one of the trucks, jumped out of his cab and gave chase.

State troopers caught the girl while Mr. Mausbauch nabbed Mr. Kappel.

Mr. Kappel, who was charged with fleeing and eluding police and corruption of minors, is at Mountour County prison. His passenger was turned over to juvenile probation authorities.
