IT Professional Of Year Is Werner's Belter

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Jim Belter, who started as a programmer with Werner Enterprises 12 years ago, was named the first Technology Professional of the Year by the American Trucking Associations Information Technology and Logistics Council and Transport Technology Today magazine.

Belter oversaw the installation of Werner's expansive network of computers and voice and data communications systems, and helped organize the carrier's systems operations and support desk. He also manages the carrier's licensing of original software.

In his acceptance, Belter said the award is really for his co-workers at Werner and their "on-going commitment to information technology."

The award is the first of what will be an annual series from the council and magazine. The selection committee will look for individuals who are pioneers in the deployment of new technologies that improve motor carrier operations. Individuals also will be recognized for helping create and guide industry standards and best practices.
