J.B. Hunt Transport Services has launched an initiative to hire 10,000 U.S. military veterans by 2020.

The carrier also was recognized as a Top 100 Military Friendly Employer by G.I. Jobs, ranking seventh overall.

“Our nation’s veterans excel at J.B. Hunt, where their strong leadership skills, experience and moral integrity contribute greatly to our company’s continued success,” CEO John Roberts said in a statement.

The company came in third on the list of most military-friendly employers in the transportation industry.

“We’re pleased to see J.B. Hunt on the list for the ninth year in a row, a testament to their commitment to hiring veterans and their programs and policies in support of the military community,” said Sean Collins, vice president at Victory Media, creator of the Military Friendly Employers ratings.

The company said it has career opportunities at more than 300 locations nationwide and offers extended benefits for employees called to active duty. It also works with transition offices and veteran affair groups to employ military talent.

American Trucking Associations recently pledged that its members will hire 100,000 military veterans over the next two years.

“There’s no higher calling for an American than to serve in our armed forces, and I’d like to think that driving a truck — delivering America’s most essential goods safely and efficiently — is also a high calling,” ATA President Bill Graves said at a press conference.

J.B. Hunt ranks No. 3 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
