J.J. Keller Offers Electronic HOS Log

Compliance services provider J.J. Keller, Neenah, Wis., released its first onboard system for keeping track of driver hours of service, the company said.

The e-logging system combines black-box style hardware with J.J. Keller’s Web-based fleet-management software and a mobile phone, laptop or PDA.

Fleets would pay $199 per truck for the hardware, which they would install themselves, plus a $6 monthly subscription fee per truck.

To run J.J. Keller’s e-logging software, fleets would have to provide their own smart phones or laptops. These devices would run J.J. Keller’s mobile software and supply the communications link to relay hours-of-service data back to dispatchers.

A company spokeswoman said the J.J. Keller device will need only a software update to comply with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s latest technical specifications, which apply to e-logging devices installed in trucks made after June 4, 2012.
