Jobless Claims Rise 28,000 for Week

Initial jobless claims rose by 28,000 last week to 337,000, the Labor Department said Thursday.

The less-volatile four-week moving average rose to 316,500, from 310,500 claims the previous week, Labor said.

Economists had forecast weekly claims to rise to 312,000, Bloomberg reported.

The number of people continuing to collect benefits rose to 2.534 million for the previous week ended Oct. 6, from 2.515 million the previous week.
