Jobless Claims Rise 6,000 for Week

Initial jobless claims rose 6,000 to 322,000 last week, the Labor Department said Thursday.

The less-volatile four-week moving average rose to 312,500 claims, from 307,750.

Economists had forecast jobless claims to dip to 315,000 claims, Bloomberg reported.

The number of people continuing to collect benefits rose to 2.567 million for the previous week ended Aug. 4, from 2.55 million a week earlier, Labor said.
