Jobless Claims Rise for Week

Initial jobless claims rose by 12,000 last week to 465,000, the Labor Department said Thursday.

The increase for the week ended Saturday was higher than economists’ forecasts of claims holding at the 450,000 level from the previous week, Bloomberg reported.

The four-week moving average, a less volatile measure, fell to 463,250, from 466,500 the week before.

Continuing claims for the previous week ended Sept. 11 dropped by 48,000 from a week earlier, to 4.49 million, Labor said.
