LED lighting manufacturer J. W. Speaker Corp., developed a new 4-inch by 6-inch LED headlight for the heavy-duty trucking market, and said the headlight already meets a proposed federal safety rating.
The Germantown, Wisconsin-based company said the Model 8800 Evolution 2 light is the industry's first to meet proposed National Highway Transportation Safety Administration guidelines for a 5-Star New Car Assessment Program-compliant low beam headlight when installed on vehicles at gross weight with headlights at 0.8 meters —1.2 meters off the ground.
“We wanted to give our heavy-duty customers a premier lighting solution, one they can count all year long, operating 24/7 in the harshest conditions possible,” Michael Stoeckel, director of aftermarket sales for J.W. Speaker, said in a statement.
It leveraged its solid optics technology to upgrade their previous Model 8800, exceeding the proposed standard in three of the main criteria; light output, glare reduction, and light placement, the company said.
