ansas may be the next state to follow Minnesota’s lead in mandating biodiesel, if its legislature passes a bill introduced in the state Senate Jan. 19 that would require all diesel sold in Kansas to contain a blend of at least 2% of fuel derived from vegetable oils or animal fats.
The bill was proposed by a joint committee of state senators and members of the state’s House of Representatives.
Backers of the Kansas legislation said promoting biodiesel fuel was part of an effort to make the state less reliant on foreign oil, but state trucking officials said they would oppose a mandate, pointing to recent problems with the fuel in Minnesota.
