Knight Family Helps Bankroll Opening of New Logistics Firm

The owners of Knight Transportation, one of the most successful truckload carriers in the country, are backing a new logistics company headed by three former Schneider Logistics executives.

KNGT Logistics, based in Grand Rapids, Mich., will provide non-asset-based transportation services to help firms with supply chain management needs.

“This is a complementary service offering,” said Kevin Knight, chief executive officer of Knight Transportation of Phoenix.

Kevin Knight is joined by company president Gary Knight and other investors from the Knight family in financing the start-up of the logistics firm, which will be a separate and independent company.

John Patterson, the former president of Total Logistic Control of Zeeland, Mich., will serve as president of the new firm. Before joining TLC, he served as vice president of operations at Schneider Logistics.

“The logistics industry is primed for a new entrant with energy, experience and a fresh perspective on how to bring value to customers,” Patterson said.

Advances in technology and the Internet have “leveled the playing field” for logistics providers, he noted.
