Truckload carrier Knight Transportation said Wednesday its second-quarter profit jumped 26% to $15.8 million, or 19 cents a share, from $12.6 million, or 15 cents, a year ago.

Revenue rose 14.4% to $185.4 million, the company said in a statement.

“Many of the truckload markets we serve experienced capacity constraints,” Chief Executive Officer Kevin Knight said.

If contract rates and the company’s operating ratio continue to improve, the carrier plans to add 100 to 150 tractors during the second half of the year to its 3,753-tractor fleet, he said.

Knight Transportation is ranked No. 34 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
