Landstar System Inc. has started construction on a new field operations center in Crawfordsville, Ind., the company announced Jan. 18.
The Jacksonville, Fla.-based transportation services business said the facility is being built with its independent leased owner-operators in mind. The 7,000-square-foot building will include classrooms, a conference room and amenities for owner-operators leased to a motor carrier operating under its banner.
“Landstar maintains facilities focused on its leased owner-operators across the United States and in Canada,” said Rocco Davanzo, executive vice president of capacity development for transportation and logistics at Landstar. “They serve as domicile locations and designated places for Landstar independent owner-operators to connect and network with each other, and to participate in continuous professional education to keep their businesses running smoothly.”
Landstar said amenities include free Wi-Fi, laundry facilities, showers and a break room. It also has truck access from the main road to a secure parking lot that has spaces for more than 100 trucks and 70 additional passenger vehicles. The location was picked to be convenient for owner-operators headed to or from Indianapolis.
Landstar ranks No. 6 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest for-hire carriers in North America and No. 19 on the TT Top 100 list of the largest logistics companies.
