Landstar’s Earnings Improve for 4Q, Year

Truckload carrier Landstar System said Tuesday its fourth-quarter earnings rose to $24.1 million, or 50 cents per share, from $18.6 million, or 37 cents, a year earlier. 

Revenue for the quarter ended Dec. 25 rose 7.3% to $587.5 million, and operating income rose to $140 million, from $113.7 million, Landstar said.

For the 2010 fiscal year, income rose to $87.5 million, or $1.77 per share, from $70.4 million, or $1.37, a year earlier.

Revenue for the fiscal year rose 19.5% to $2.4 billion, the truckload carrier said in a statement.



Landstar System is ranked No. 11 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
