Loggers Planning Diesel Protest in Washington

Independent logging truckers from Maine may drive their rigs to Washington to protest high diesel fuel prices, the Bangor (Maine) Daily News reported Thursday.

The protest would be to alert federal officials and Congress about their impact on the state’s forest products industry, the paper said.

A spokeswoman for the Coalition to Lower Fuel Prices in Maine said such a protest would happen and that it was just a matter of when, the paper reported.

Diesel prices peaked Wednesday in the area at $3.85 per gallon in Machias, Maine, which has prompted some truckers to make fewer trips to save money, the paper said.
