Logistics Providers Fight for U.S. Market Share

Acquisitions and expanding worldwide trade have raised the level of competition among European and North American logistics service providers, an annual ranking of logistics companies by Transport Topics has shown.

Exel Americas reclaimed its No. 1 ranking on the 2004 TT Logistics 50 listing of the largest logistics companies in North America as a result of the purchase by Exel’s parent, London-based Exel PLC, of European and North American distribution specialist Tibbett & Britten Group in August.

Exel Americas Chief Executive Officer Bruce Edwards said the addition of Tibbett & Britten “dramatically expands” Exel’s contract logistics business in the United States and Canada and is expected to fuel demand for the company’s international freight forwarding and domestic truck brokerage businesses.
