Longistics announced Nov. 19 that its transportation division has been designated an Environmental Protection Agency SmartWay program partner.
The Raleigh, North Carolina, logistics company began pursuing SmartWay designation this summer. Working with fleet-maintenance provider Penske, Longistics compiled data including makes and models, production years, and fuel consumption and performance to establish that it qualified through its multiple efforts to reduce emissions.
“We’re proud to have fulfilled the requirements of the EPA SmartWay program and are enthusiastic about being recognized as a green company,” said Longistics Chairman Duane Long, who also is chairman of American Trucking Associations.
The 10-year-old SmartWay program is a public-private initiative among the EPA, trucking companies, rail carriers, logistics firms, manufacturers, retailers and other federal and state agencies to boost fuel efficiency and environmental performance.
