Look Out Below: FedEx in Freight Business

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — FedEx is absolutely, positively in the freight business.

Any doubt about the express carrier’s intent to compete head-on with less-than-truckload and air freight carriers was quickly dispelled during a recent interview with Kenneth A. May, its senior vice president of Air, Ground and Freight Services.

Over the past 11 months, May has put the finishing touches on a freight distribution system geared to handle palletized shipments with the same efficiency and precision that characterizes the company’s handling of priority packages.
