LTL Owner Buys Fleet to Start TL Operation

A Tennessee businessman has purchased the trucking fleet of Idahoan Foods in Lewisville, Idaho, and formed a new company, called Golden Valley Transportation, to provide nationwide truckload service.

L.D. “Micky” Miller said Golden Valley will serve as a core carrier and logistics provider to Idaho Fresh Pak, a division of Idahoan Foods that produces dehydrated potato products, and Nestle Corp., which is a part-owner of IFP.

The equipment acquired from Idahoan Foods — about 40 tractors and 100 trailers — will form the core of the new nationwide truckload carrier, said Miller, who founded Crown Transport System, a less-than-truckload carrier that served the floor covering industry, in the 1970s and served as its chairman until 1997. He sold Crown in 1994 to U.S. Xpress Enterprises in Chatanooga, Tenn.

“This is the first step in building a dynamic, service-oriented truckload carrier,” Miller said. “We anticipate that we will increase the size of the fleet by building a nationwide freight base.
