ASHINGTON — Tim Lynch, president of the Motor Freight Carriers Association, said any changes to the current hours-of-service regulations for truck drivers could hurt both the trucking industry and the overall U.S. economy.

“I have always believed that the hours-of-service rule is probably the single most important, encompassing rule indicating both how trucking companies and individual truck drivers can operate,” Lynch said Feb. 18 at the Transportation Table forum.

Lynch went on to say that since trucking hauls 80% of products on the nation’s highways, he would contend that the hours rule affects “80% of the economy,” and the issue “ought not be simply in the domain of the trucking industry.”
