Lytx Recognizes ‘Heroes of the Road'

Lytx announced April 8 the recipients of its 2021 Driver of the Year and Coach of the Year awards.

The awards are intended to honor professional drivers and coaches as well as show exceptional work and a commitment to safety. They are open to any driver or coach using the Lytx Driver Safety Program. The awards recognize clients across six categories.

“Over the past year, we have witnessed drivers and coaches cope with one of the most difficult challenges they’ve ever faced,” Del Lisk, vice president of safety services at Lytx, said in a statement. “We’re excited to honor these heroes of the road for their remarkable work and sacrifices to keep our country moving forward.”



Lytx provides machine-vision video telematics solutions for commercial and public sector fleets. That includes safety services and video telematics, productivity and analytics solutions.

The For-Hire Trucking Driver of the Year first-place winner was Jan Quarnberg of Barney Trucking, who has more than 45 years of experience as a professional truck driver. He has received numerous honors, including both the Lytx/DriveCam Good Driving Award and the Glen Barney Haul of Fame award in 2017. Second place was Jeff Christian of TransWood Inc. and third place went to Phillip Clifton of Transport America.

The Private Trucking Driver of the Year first-place honor went to John Dansby of Honda Transportation U.S. (Ryder). Dansby has driven more than 3 million miles in his 31-year career. Chase Cronan of Hill’s Pet Nutrition Inc. was the second-place winner; Victor McQuillen of Performance Food Group came in third.

The 2021 Coach of the Year Award went to Buner “Herschel” Evans of YRC. He has maintained a flawless driving record with more than 3 million accident-free miles and numerous awards and accolades to his name. That includes the 2018 Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance International Driver Excellence Award. He also is a past American Trucking Associations’ America’s Road Team captain.

Awards were also given to drivers in the categories of government, service/utilities and waste/construction as well as coaches across all the categories.
