Mack Trucks has received an order for 18 more of its Vision Elite model tractors from the U.S. Army TACOM Life Cycle Management Command.
Mack, Lehigh Valley, Pa., said Aug. 4 that the order is valued at $2.4 million and includes 35-ton lowboy trailers for each tractor.
The order is the second to be placed by TACOM — the Tank-automotive and Armaments Command — as part of a three-year, $28.5 million contract that calls for a total of 152 Vision Elite models, Mack said.
TACOM has taken delivery of 80 Vision Elite tractors so far this year, along with trailers.
The vehicles will have 70-inch high-rise sleepers and be assembled at the plant of Mack’s sister company, Volvo Trucks North America, in Dublin, Va.
Mack formerly built its over-the-road sleepers at Volvo’s plant but is in the process of transferring all production to its plant in Macungie, Pa. It will transfer its military production to Macungie as well, but no date has been set.
