Mack’s Future Rolls Ahead On Plan

Despite its imminent purchase by Volvo, Mack Trucks will go ahead with plans to roll out a full line of Class 8 trucks that are designed to provide a “bridge” to the next generation of commercial vehicles.

Mack is working on the project with its parent company, Renault VI, which is the target of the Swedish truck maker’s effort to increase business.

On April 25, Volvo AB announced its bid to acquire Renault’s truck division, which includes Mack in the United States. The deal calls for Volvo to pay $1.5 billion in stock, which amounts to about 15% of its shares ("Volvo to Buy Renault’s Truck Operations," 5-1, p. 1). The agreement also requires the French automaker to acquire an additional 5% stake in Volvo.

The transaction will require the approval of regulatory bodies in Europe and the United States.
