Magtec, PeopleNet Set Deal to Integrate Security Technology

Magtec Products and PeopleNet Communications announced a development agreement that will enhance truck security by integrating Magtec’s M5K technology into PeopleNet’s g3 onboard computing and mobile communications system.

Integration will allow PeopleNet customers to access Magtec M5K functions through the same Web page interface they use to access PeopleNet’s various location, business and vehicle-monitoring capabilities, said Ron Konezny, PeopleNet's chief operating officer.

Magtec authentication helps prevent truck theft, even when the driver leaves a truck running. Magtec’s M5K system requires a driver to enter a personal authentication code on a numerical keypad prior to moving the vehicle. The system knows when a truck is left idling and will require the driver to re-enter the code before the truck will move.

“We have been excited about this partnership for some time and our development teams have experienced great results from the field testing that has already taken place,” Mark Ochitwa, vice president of Magtec, Calgary, Alberta, said in a statement.

Testing now has begun with four to six major carriers in North America who are existing PeopleNet customers and commercial availability is expected in mid-August, the companies said.

“Partnering with Magtec opens many new doors for us,” said PeopleNet’s Konezny. “Our customers have been looking for something that will provide them the safety and security they need and now we can offer it to them.”
