Manufacturing Activity in Chicago Grows at Slower Pace

Manufacturing activity in the Chicago area expanded at a slower pace in June, the Institute for Supply Management-Chicago said Friday.

ISM’s business index declined to a reading of 51.6 from 58.7 in May, which was the highest in more than a year. Readings more than 50 indicate expansion.

Economists had forecast a reading of 55, Bloomberg News reported.

Chicago is a major center of U.S. manufacturing, which is one of trucking’s largest and most important customers.
