Mark Gagnon, president of Capitol Moving and Storage of South Windsor, Connecticut, was recently installed as the chairman of the board of the Motor Transport Association of Connecticut.
Gagnon is the 43rd chairman of the 800-member state trucking association, which was formed in 1920. He’ll serve in the post for two years.
His firm is a third-generation household goods moving company founded in 1947 in Hartford by the new chairman’s grandfather, Edward Gagnon.
“MTAC is a respected trade association with a great reputation at the state capitol and around the country,” Gagnon said, in accepting the chairman’s gavel from his predecessor, Andy Anastasio Jr., of Anastasio Trucking in New Haven.
Gagnon noted that MTCA faces several challenges in the coming two years, among them Gov. Dannel Malloy’s plan to concentrate on pressing transportation needs in his second term.
“We want to make sure that roads, highways and bridges are upgraded and improved without tolling existing highways,” Gagnon said.
Gagnon also will oversee the search process to replace longtime association President Mike Riley, who plans to retire at the end of 2015.
